Keeper of the Lost Cities NEVERSEEN

Keeper of the Lost Cities

Neverseen

by Shannon Messenger

It's safe to say that this series is one of my all-time favorites.  Each book raises the stakes even higher than the last.  If you haven't picked up the first book yet here's a synopsis.  In the first Keeper of the Lost Cities book we meet Sophie.  A girl who is different than the rest of the kids her age.  She is advancing in her studies so much quicker than is normal and is having trouble fitting in and making friends.  She's also been having terrible head aches because for some reason she can hear other people's thoughts.  When she goes on a field trip with the rest of her classmates she meets a mysterious boy that tells her she doesn't belong to this world.  She's an elf.  And from there Sophie enters a whole new world.  One with people just like her.  We follow her as she embarks on an adventure where she learns about magic and how to live in this fantastical, new place where she belongs and fits in.  Or does she???

SPOILER ALERT!!!

If you haven't read the first three books to this series you might not want to read this review for the fourth book.  It does contain a few minor spoilers for the beginning books.
😌

In Neverseen, the fourth book to the series, Sophie and her group of friends run away to join forces with the Black Swan.  Racing to find a cure for the sickly disease the trees seem to be contracting, they must hurry before more than just the trees die.  Their friends, the gnomes, seem to be susceptible to it as well and are fighting to stay alive until they can get the cure.  One question remains though... Where exactly can they find this cure?  Deep into the mountains of the goblin realm, Ravagog, they must delve.  But are the goblins peaceful?  Do they want to help?  Ummm....  Most definitely not...  They are holding the cure hostage as leverage against the elves and the gnomes.  The friends have to team up with some amazing new characters to go on a heist to steal the cure from the goblin king, Dimitar, before things start to spiral out of their control.

So many crazy things happen in this book!!!  We see an old enemy emerging, a secret identity finally revealed, a rescue that was thought impossible, and maybe even a betrayal of someone close.
Some aspects of this story weren't my favorite, but that didn't stop me from giving it a high rating.  The relationships are so endearing.  It's very rare in YA or middle grade books to see adults stepping in and helping out, or just plain saying no, it's too dangerous.  This series might look daunting at first given how large these books are, but I absolutely fly right through them!  They keep me entertained the whole way through and I hardcore root for all of these characters.
